Purpose: Junior Lifeguards is a program geared to youth ages 12-15. The intent is to expose and
prepare them for becoming a Lifeguard. Over the years this program, like similar programs, has
evolved to provide experiences and training that help the youth become leaders in their
community and safety advocates in a variety of water environments. In 2018, this is our
mission.
Objective: What will you get out of the class? Participants will learn Basic Frist Aid and CPR
skills. They will be provided an introduction to the lifeguarding profession and skills needed to
eventually become a lifeguard and save lives. We will also be inviting guest speakers from the
community to discuss community safety. With this component, we also want to provide
participants with exposure to potential career options. Being a Lifeguard can be a lifetime
rewarding career in itself. It can also open doors to other potential careers and we want to
share that with our youth.
